Atom
The smallest particle of an element. atom. An atom is the basic unit of matter that makes up everything around us.
Atomic mass
The average mass of all the isotopes of an element. Atomic mass. Atomic mass is the weighted average of the masses of all naturally occurring isotopes of an element.
Atomic number
Number of protons in an atoms nucleus. Atomic number. The atomic number is the count of protons in an atom's nucleus, determining the element's identity.
Electron
A negatively charged particle outside the nucleus of an atom, electron. An electron is a tiny particle that orbits the nucleus of an atom and carries a negative electric charge.
Electron cloud
The region around an atomic nucleus where electrons are likely to be found electron cloud. An electron cloud is the area around an atom's nucleus where its electrons are most likely to be located.
Element
A substance made of one type of atom that cannot be broken down chemically. Element. An element is a basic substance that forms all matter.
Energy level
A region of an atom where electrons with the same energy are found. Energy level. An energy level is the specific area around an atom's nucleus where electrons orbit based on their energy.
Isotope
An atom of the same element with a different number of neutrons. Isotope. Isotopes are variations of the same chemical element that have different numbers of neutrons in their nuclei.
Mass number
The sum of neutrons and protons in an atoms nucleus. mass number. The mass number is the total count of protons and neutrons present in the nucleus of an atom.
Neutron
An uncharged particle in the nucleus of an atom. neutron. A neutron is a particle found in the nucleus of an atom that has no electrical charge.
Nucleus atom
The center of an atom nucleus. The nucleus is the dense core of an atom where protons and neutrons are located.
Proton
A particle with a positive charge in an atoms nucleus. Proton. A proton is a positively charged particle found in the nucleus of an atom, contributing to its mass and identity.
