Science
Compound machine
A machine made of two or more simple machines. Compound machine. A compound machine is a device that combines multiple simple machines to perform work more efficiently.
Efficiency
The percentage of energy input that a machine converts to work output. Efficiency. Efficiency measures how well a machine or system converts energy into useful work.
Fulcrum
Fixed point on which a lever pivots. Fulcrum. In Science, a fulcrum is the support or point around which a lever turns, allowing it to lift or move objects more easily.
Inclined plane
a simple machine with a flat, sloped surface. inclined plane. An inclined plane is a flat surface tilted at an angle, used to help lift or lower objects with less effort.
Input force
The force applied to a machine. Input force. Input force is the push or pull applied to a machine to make it work.
Joule
The SI unit of energy, also known as the Newton-meter, is joule. A joule is the energy needed to move an object one meter with a force of one newton.
Lever
A simple machine that consists of a bar that pivots on a fixed point. Lever. A lever is a tool that helps lift or move objects by using a bar on a pivot, making it easier to apply force.
Machine
A device that makes work easier by changing the size or direction or both of a force. Machine. A machine is a tool that helps us do tasks by altering how forces are applied.
Mechanical advantage
The ratio of the output force to the input force in a machine mechanical advantage. Mechanical advantage is how much a machine multiplies the force you put into it, making it easier to do work.
Output force
The force exerted by a machine. Output force. In simple terms, output force is the force that a machine applies to move or lift an object.
Power
The rate at which work is done, it is measured in watts W. Power. In simple terms, power is how quickly energy is used or transferred.
Pulley
a simple machine made of a wheel with a rope around it
Screw
A simple machine made of an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder. A screw is a tool that converts rotational motion into linear motion to hold things together or lift objects.
Wedge
A simple machine made of one or two inclined planes. Wedge. A wedge is a tool that helps split or lift things apart by concentrating force on one end.
Wheel and axle
A simple machine made of a wheel with a rod joined at its center, they rotate together. Wheel and axle. The wheel and axle is a tool that helps make movement or lifting easier by reducing friction.
Work
The use of force to move an object over a distance, its unit is the Joule J. Work is done when a force moves an object.
