Grade 3 - NGSS - CA
Friction
The force that opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching is called friction. Friction is what makes it harder to slide a toy car on a carpet than on a smooth floor.
Inertia
The tendency of objects to resist any change in motion. Inertia. Inertia means that things like to keep doing what they're already doing, whether that's moving or staying still.
Momentum
The product of an object's mass and velocity. Momentum. Momentum is how much motion an object has, and it depends on how heavy it is and how fast it's moving.
Motion
A change in an objects position. Motion. Motion is when something moves from one place to another.
Static friction
Friction that acts on objects that are not moving. Static friction. Static friction is what keeps objects from sliding when they are still.
