Chemical change
A change that produces a new substance. Chemical change. A chemical change happens when materials combine and make something new that can't be reversed easily, like baking a cake.
Chemical reaction
The process where substances change into different substances through the breaking of chemical bonds is called a chemical reaction. A chemical reaction is when two or more substances mix together and make something new.
Compound
The substance made when atoms from two or more elements combine chemically is called a compound. A compound is like a recipe where different ingredients atoms mix together to make something new.
Mixture
A combination of substances that keep their individual properties. Mixture. A mixture is when different things are mixed together, but they dont change into something new.
Physical change
A change in size, shape, or state but not in identity. Physical change. A physical change is when something looks different, but it's still the same material.
Precipitate
A solid formed when two solutions react. Precipitate. A precipitate is a solid that appears when certain liquids are mixed together.
Solubility
A measure of how much solute will dissolve in a solvent. Solubility. Solubility is how much of something can mix into a liquid before it stops dissolving.
Substance
An element or compound with the same composition and properties throughout. Substance. A substance is something made of only one kind of material that stays the same no matter where you look.
