Cellular respiration
Cells using oxygen to produce energy from food. Cellular respiration. Cellular respiration is the process where cells turn food into energy with the help of oxygen.
Chlorophyll
The green pigment in plants that uses light energy for photosynthesis. Chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is what makes plants green and helps them make food using sunlight.
Consumer
Unlike a plant, cannot make its own food, instead it eats other living things. Consumer. A consumer is a living thing that gets its energy by eating other plants or animals.
Food chain
The food energy transfer between organisms in an ecosystem. Food chain. A food chain shows how energy passes from one living thing to another in an ecosystem.
Food web
A model of overlapping food chains in an ecosystem. Food web. A food web shows how different plants and animals are connected by who eats whom in an ecosystem.
Nutrient
A substance that an organism needs to live, like water or minerals. nutrient. A nutrient is something that gives living things the food or energy they need to grow and stay healthy.
Photosynthesis
The process by which plants use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make food is called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is how plants make their own food using sunlight.
Producer
Organism that can make its own food, like all plants. Producer. A producer is a living thing, like a plant, that makes its own food using sunlight.
