Genetic Drift

Genetic Drift Definition | Radience Gaming

Random changes in allele frequency, which usually occurs in small populations

Real World Example

Imagine you're trying to pick a random team of 5 players from a group of 100, but you only have 10 people available to choose from on a particular day. This is similar to genetic drift in that the smaller group you have to choose from can lead to a team that doesn't represent the larger group's diversity. Just as your team's composition can be heavily influenced by the small number of players available, genetic drift occurs when random changes in allele frequencies happen, especially in small populations, due to the limited genetic pool available.
