Deposition

The process of dropping sediment by water or wind
Real World Example
Imagine you're carrying a basket of laundry up the stairs and some socks start falling out along the way. This is similar to how wind or water carry sediment until they lose energy and drop it, like your socks dropping when you can't hold onto them any longer. Just as the socks end up scattered on the stairs when they slip from your grasp, sediment is deposited onto the ground when the carrying force of wind or water weakens, leaving behind a trail of particles in new locations.
